Ready or Not, Here it Comes #2
The title of my blog is referring to water crisis that is cause by climate change and other results from lack of understanding and consequences. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has taken a study of all 50 states in the U.S. to analyze the preparedness for water crisis. Twenty-nine states were listed as unprepared threats to their economics and public health. The most prepared states were:
- New York
The damages are caused by intense rainfalls, flooding, and extreme drought conditions. Climate change and rising temperatures has affected so many aspects of our lives already it can be disturbing to think of future results if change is not initiated soon. It will require understanding and preparedness to help protect our families, our health, our pocketbooks, and our communities.
Water is necessary for survival, powers our industries, and provides for healthy natural systems. In this study the NRDC has established a wake-up call and road map for states to take the advantage and effectively safeguard the most valuable resource on the planet.
- 9 out of 10 states are experiencing more frequent and intense storms that cause floods
- 36 states have water supply problems, only 6 have comprehensive adaptation plans
- Only 22 states have developed plans and set up goals to reduce carbon emissions which cause climate change.
